Newton County Courthouse Restoration
The restoration of the Newton County Courthouse required the reconstruction of a 1903 Second Empire-style building after a fire destroyed most of the Courthouse in 2000.
Services provided to Newton County included intensive physical investigation and historic research followed by full architectural services. The restoration design is based on a period of significance of 1936-37 using physical evidence and historic documents that depict the exterior and interior appearance of the building at that time.
The restoration work is in progress and scheduled for completion in early 2008.
The project is funded by the Texas Historical Commission’s Texas Historic Courthouse Preservation Program.
